What do Love Island and LinkedIn have in common?

Ok I admit it.  My current guilty pleasure is watching Love Island 💕

I’ll take it over the ‘B’ word any day.

Watching it recently I was struck with how the 3 basic principles of networking apply to life in the villa and gaining traction.

  1. Be Social – housemates who have come in and adopted a passive approach have not done well. George was booted out for not talking enough and Arabella didn’t socialise. It’s not enough to have a pretty package (think LinkedIn Profile here folks) you need to adopt an active approach for results.
  2. Be Consistent – following a trip to Casa Amor several of the contestants jumped ship leading to a major outcry and a massive loss of trust. Be authentic or you will never generate the essential know, like and trust factor in order to sustain a meaningful relationship.
  3. 80/20 Rule: Be a giver – give back to your network by inspiring, motivating, educating and informing. Amy’s departure speech was a true embodiment of this and in general the people who make it to the finals are giving back to their network consistently.

Are there any tips you could apply? I know I’m not the only one watching 🙃
